Orthex has been using material made from industrial plastic waste to produce buckets, bins, and boxes since the 1990s.

In 2015, we began incorporating post-consumer plastic waste into our production process as well.

Our plant care category has been a forerunner in using recycled material. Today, 100% of our flowerpots and balcony boxes are made from recycled plastics.

SmartStore Collect

In 2017, we significantly increased the use of post-consumer plastic waste, leading to products like waste bins and bins being made from recycled materials.

In 2019, SmartStore™ Recycled was launched, a series of durable storage boxes made from recycled plastic.

Nowadays our storage category has stylish storage basket ranges SmartStore™ Basket and Essence, sorting solution series SmartStore™ Collect as well as SmartStore™ Bedrollers, all made from recycled plastic.

Other sustainable materials

We also use renewable bio-based plastics, which are made entirely or partially from renewable resources. Read more and get inspired by our products made from bio-based plastic, such as the GastroMax™ kitchen utensils range! 

Additionally, we have started using raw materials produced by applying the mass balance approach in our products. This approach involves mixing renewable materials with fossil materials during the raw material production process.
